What could possibly go wrong?
*Family First* is a new and fresh comedy about a Finnish summer at the cottage—about how to have a good time at the cottage, even if you have to force yourself. When Helena, the mother of the family, tries to get her grown children to behave for just a moment so that a garden magazine reporter invited to the cottage can take idyllic photos of the peonies in bloom and the shiny new composting outhouse, things quickly start to go off the rails. Even before the cooler has been brought into the living room, the summer idyll begins to crumble.
The play makes you laugh with its fast-paced dialogue and relatable situations, but it also touches on the sensitive aspects of family relationships. Ultimately, it’s about family—and perhaps also about the fact that the neighbors at the summer cottage might be just a little jealous. The energetic TE4 Band provides the music, and the production as a whole offers an entertaining and heartwarming summer theater experience that’s perfect for groups.
